Looking after your pieces
Handmade pieces like a little care — a soft cloth, a dry spot to rest, and a gentle hand. Nothing fussy: mostly it's about keeping moisture, perfume, and hard knocks at bay. Here's how to keep each kind of piece looking its best.
let it age
Copper (raw & polished)
Copper warms and deepens with wear — that living finish is part of the charm. Buff it with a soft cloth to brighten it again, or simply let it age. Keep it dry between wears.
don't polish
Inked-patina copper (Moss & Metal)
This is the one to remember: don't polish it. The inked green patina is the finish, so keep the piece dry, store it away from moisture, and clean it only with a soft, dry cloth. Skip polishes and cleaners — they lift the patina and take the finish with them.
last on, first off
Pearl, shell & mother of pearl
Soft and natural — last on, first off. Wipe with a soft, damp cloth after wear, keep it away from perfume and chemicals, and store it apart from harder stones so it doesn't scratch.
no hard knocks
Glass, crystal & lampwork
Wipe gently with a soft cloth and avoid hard knocks. Store in a pouch.
buff to shine
Sterling silver
Store it dry, and buff gently with a soft cloth to lift any tarnish and bring back the shine.
roll don't tug
Stretch-elastic bracelets
Roll a stretch bracelet on and off gently over your hand rather than pulling it wide — an easy habit that keeps the elastic springy. Keep it dry.
wipe & store dry
Gold-filled pieces
Wipe after wear, keep away from chemicals, and store dry.

Silver-plated pieces
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and keep dry — a light touch keeps the plating looking its best.

Fine-art prints
Frame behind glass and keep out of direct sunlight to protect the colours. Handle by the edges.

Handmade clay
Each piece is hand-shaped — handle it gently, keep it dry, and store it where it won't be crushed.

Gemstones
Keep stones away from perfume, lotion, and harsh chemicals, and avoid prolonged water. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth, and store in a pouch so they don't knock against harder pieces.

Lava stone
Lava stone is porous, so keep it away from oils and lotions — unless you're using it as a diffuser, in which case a single drop of essential oil on the beads is lovely. Wipe it dry; don't soak it.
