the maker

Hi, I'm Geneen

I grew up in the Kootenays, in southeastern British Columbia — the kind of place where the forest gets close and the light goes quiet under the trees. I think that's where all of this really started.

I began making jewellery when my children were small — something to do with my own two hands. It grew, quietly, from a hobby into what it is now.

These days I work from a small studio in Derwent, Alberta, and ship from right here. I take little bits and pieces of nature and turn them into something to keep — nature isn't a theme here, it's my raw material.

Every piece is made by hand, one at a time, and no two ever come out quite the same. And when you message me, it's me who answers — I read and reply to every one myself.

how it's made

From stone to finished piece

Every piece of jewellery starts with a stone or a length of solid copper — never plated. I choose the stone first, for its colour and character, then build the piece around it by hand.

cold-forging

I shape the metal cold, hammering and bending it by hand to draw out the form.

annealing

when the metal needs to give, I warm it to soften it, then work it again without it cracking.

Soldering

where two parts need to join for good, I solder them into one lasting piece.

wire-wrapping

I wind copper, and sometimes silver, around each stone by hand, so the setting alone holds it — no glue, just metal and tension.

It's slow, hands-on work, and I wouldn't do it any other way. Every piece of jewellery is one-of-one — there's only ever one of each.

A few weeks ago, a flock of American White Pelicans landed on my lake — the same quiet giants I'd already painted. It's a strange, lovely thing when your subject comes to visit you.
That's the real flock in the first photo. The second is "American White Pelican," a fine-art print of my original mixed-media piece — for anyone who'd like the version that stays.

Mist and dew are the same water — air-suspended, leaf-held, gone by mid-morning if the sun finds them. But for the hour they are there, they catch every bit of light.

Two pairs of wire-wrap earrings, sisters with the same stone but slightly different makes. Mist Drops & Dew Drops — both copper, both quartz, both made for the kind of day when you can't be in the forest but want to wear a small piece of it anyway.

Vines do not work fast. They grow around what they find and stay there.

Vine Drops take that idea and put it on a long copper twist — coiled wire wrapped slowly, by hand, around a single deep-green quartz that catches what light there is.

Heavy enough to swing when you walk. Long enough to read as a statement without trying.

A patch of forest floor isn't one thing. It's lichens stacked on lichens, ferns coming up through moss, a hundred small textures in one small place.

Two pairs of earrings, same family. Lichen Drops — the vertical leaf design (slide 1). Fern Drops — the spreading leaf design (slide 2). Both in patinated copper with leaf-vine cutouts. Both small enough to read like miniature ecosystems on the ear.

Look up in a forest with a thick canopy and you see a triangle — branches converging at the same point, leaves overlapping like overlapping scales.

Moss Veil is that, in copper. A triangular pendant, patinated green, with a row of leaf-vine across the top edge and a single small jade resting at the bottom.

It sits across the collarbone the way a leaf canopy sits across the sky — wide, flat, holding the green.

Some pieces want to be worn long.

Forest Spine is a vertical pendant — copper aged green, laid over with a leaf-vine in raw metal, holding one small piece of jade at the lower curve.

It wears the way a fern stem looks lying flat against a tree trunk. Long, vertical, quiet. Made for days when you want one thing on your chest and nothing else.
